However, the sediment quality of the Ganga (though not studied properly) is good and the sediments are rich in beneficial microbes. The sediment load of the Ganga is very high and occasional dredging is necessary for cleaning the Ganga. The sediments can be profitably utilized for agricultural purposes. Some measures have been suggested to make the Ganga Action Plan fruitful and economically viable.
