1) The Great Anthracite Coal Strike of 1902 is a glaring example of how labor strikes can affect industries. The workers were demanding a pay hike of 20% but after the intervention of industrialist, J.P.Morgan, they settled for a raise of 10%.

An advantage of such a strike is that the workers could get some increase in their salaries after demonstrating for their rights whereas a disadvantage of a strike is that it lowers the productivity of an industry, hampers growth and can be detrimental for industries as there can be more joblessness from it.

2) Explanation:

  • The strike is a very effective weapon for the workers to meet industrial demands.
  • In the “Industrial Disputes Act”, 1947, it has been stated that the strike to stop work or refuse to act is called a strike by the artisans working in the industrial establishment (whose appointment has been done to act).

Here are the pros and cons of strike as follows:

Pros:

  1. Strike is a peaceful way of pressurizing management  .
  2. Mostly strikes ends with the positive result.
  3. Strikes are cost free and non-violent way to oppose.

Cons:

  1. In the time strike, the productivity and work suffers.
  2. Strike causes the loss of company.
  3. Sometimes the work force demands for unauthorized things.
  4. The general public also suffers.

For example: Patients suffers most when the medical fraternity goes on strike.
