any carbonyl group having CH3CO bonding with hydrogen or Carbone allow this reaction.

CH3CHO+Cl2+NaOH =CHCl3+HCOONa+NaCl
don't forget to give heat (∆)

CH3COCH3+Cl2+ NaOH=CHCl3+CH3COONa
