C6H12O6 + 6O2 —6CO2 + 6H2O + Energy

It is exothermic reaction because a large amount of heat ie released.

Example : Decomposition of vegetable matter into compost.

Balanced Equation:

C_{6} H_{12} O_{6}+6 O_{2} \rightarrow 6 C O_{2}+6 H_{2} O+ energy

Reaction taking place:

As we can see due to the breakdown of a single molecule of sugar in the presence of six molecules of oxygen, the formation of six molecules carbon di-oxide with six molecules of water along with a large amount of energy is produced in the form of heat.

Justification:

As heat is an end product of the chemical reaction, the reaction can be classified as an exothermic reaction.

Exothermic, as the name suggests 'Exo' means outside or external and 'thermic' means heat i.e, heat is produced as a product.

Example for exothermic reaction:

Example of exothermic reactions is Decomposition of vegetable matter into compost which also produce a large amount of energy as a product.
