Story of Palampur is all about a hypothetical village, that explains all about the concept - 'Production'. This village is well developed with facilities such as, electricity, schools and hospitals. We also learn about, how the farm activities in Palampur. Since the land is fixed and scarce, the farmers of Palampur undergo multiple cropping and modern farming methods. Modern farming methods includes the use of chemical pesticides and fertilizers, and this causes loss of soil fertility and depletion of the water table.
Capital is found abundantly, only with rich and medium farmers. They have extensive amounts of surplus and capital, thus in a safe position. But, the small farmers have to take loans for capital and surplus and are eventually caught in a debt trap.
To repay these debts, some undergo non farm activities like diary, transportation, shop keeping and small scale manufacture. The number of people included in this not much high, but the number is expected to increase in future.
