Answer

It is -1 because 1+(-1)=(-1)+1=0

Also, 2+(-2)=(-2)+2=0

So, we say 2 is the negative or additive inverse of -2 and vice -veraa. In general, for any interger a, we have a+(-a) =(-a) +a =0 ,so a is the negative of -a and -a is the negative of a

Integers:

Integers are a set of numbers which include Whole Numbers and their negatives. They are a part of the real number line. They are denoted by the letter Z.

They are grouped into 3 categories, namely:

  • Positive Integers: This set includes all natural numbers. Examples: 1,5,10 etc.

  • Zero: This set includes the unique integer I.e. 0.

  • Negative integers: This set of integers includes all the natural numbers but with a 'minus' [-] sign before them. Examples: -5,-1,-10 etc.
