Therefore they resorted to an ethnic revival movement to maintain and assert their distinct identity as ahom through the growth and development of their ethno- culture traits and there by to secure an adequate constitutional safeguard. As a result the ahom Sabha was formed in 1893 with Padmanath Gohainbaruha as its president. It is to be noted that the ahom sabha became the first ethnic organisation formed in the province of Assam.
