The Kaziranga National Park is located in the state of Assam in the Nagaon and Golaghat districts. The history of the park as a protected area dates back to 1904 after the Viceroy of India, Lord Curzon’s wife visited the premises. She was not able to see a single rhinoceros in the area that was supposed to be known for. She persuaded Lord Curzon to take measures to protect the animal facing threat of extinction. Lord Curzon made arrangements for protection of the rhinoceros. Today, it is one of the biggest protected lands in the sub-Himalayan belt.
