The child loves to rise early on a summer morning, to enjoy, but all the happiness disappears when he realizes he has to go to school. The main theme is sorrow that the boy feels at that very thought. The boy longs for the freedom of the outdoors and cannot take delight in his books. He is compelled to experience many anxious hours. The caged image of the bird is used in the poem. The birds sing happily when they are free, but not in a cage. In the same way, the boy feels imprisoned in school. The image of the plant applies to the the school boy's present and future. The young plant is like a young child, tender and vulnerable. The way it is treated at this stage dictates it's later capacity to bear fruit. Just as food gathered in autumn is necessary to ensure survival through the winter. So the experiences of the child in its early age is necessary to help it go through the problems of life in future.
