The Khasi Rebellion or The Anglo-Khasi Rebellion was a part of Indian independence struggle.

This rebellion was fought between British and the people of Khasi region.

After occupying the hilly region between the Garo and Jaintia hills, the East India Company wanted to build a road linking the Brahmaputra River with Sylhet.

For this construction purpose many people including Englishmen and Bengalis and also labours from plains were called to the Khasi hills region.

Tirath singh, the king of Khasi region organised Khasis, Garos, Khampti and Singhpos under his leadership to drive away the strangers from the plains and to oppose the construction of road. The uprising of the tribes developed into a popular revolt against British rule.

The rebellion broke out in the year 1829 and was continued till 1833. By 1883, the revolt was suppressed by the superior english force.
