helen's father Arthur H Keller had been a captain in the confederate army and was the editor of a newspaper. Helen describes her father as the most loving and indulgent person
who was devoted to his family. he was an excellent hunter and he also loved his guns. he enjoyed having guests over in his house and entertained them well. He loves nature and took special pride in his Hughes Garden which was full of beautiful flowers , bushes and trees.
since Helen liked nature, Mr Keller held her little hands and let her from tree to tree from vine to vine and was delighted in whatever pleased her. he was a dedicated father who wanted his child to be always happy.
