Mrs Jordan was is a
stout, complacent woman with an impassive and an
irritating air of being always right. She, like her sister was a greedy and materialistic woman, though she appears to be a little sorrowful at her father's loss, but soon we see her real nature when we come to know she is more worried about securing her father's golden watch for her son, Jimmy.
Mrs Slater is an ungrateful, selfish, materialistic and unethical woman. She is a vigorous, plump, red-faced,vulgar woman, prepared to do any amount of straight talking to get her own way. She is not sad and upset over her father's death. She is only concerned about her share of property of her deceased father. She steals her father's bureau, slippers, and clock before the arrival of her sister. She is not concerned about sending for a doctor to have her father examined.
