subsistence farming is also known as traditional farming . Here taditional means to perform the work in the usual way how it need to be done with out using any artificial equipments.
The meaning of subsitence farming is self contained or self sufficient unit where most o the agricultural production. is consumed and some may be sold in the local market.

following are the characteristics of subsistence farming.....

1. land use:- the traditional farm own the land with a small area of 1 to 3 hectares .. the goods produced in the this small farm is just for the family as the area is very short for family and commercial purposes..

2. labour:- to hire a labour ; is not always possible.. mostly the family member act as the Labour for the farming..

3. income and level of living:- the oncome and level of living is below poverty line..

4. productivity:- the productivity of subsistence farming is very low as the input required for the farming is very less..
