Characteristics of serotonin are as follows:-
1. It is a derivative of amino acid.
2. It is commonly known as 5-hydroxy tryptamine.
3. It function by constricting the vessels in order to decrease the blood circulation hence it is also a vasoconstrictor.
4. In case any part of the body is cut then functioning of serotonin is required. As there will be requirement of high blood loss which is done by this by decreasing of that.
5. It is secreted by the mast cells.
6. It plays important role in other activities of the body like sexual desire, digestion, memory etc.
7. It may cause problems in sleeping if there will low amount of serotonin.
