To write:

Word equation and explain balancing it.

Calcium hydroxide + Nitric acid - water + calcium nitrate

Solution:

Unbalanced Equation:

 \boxed{ \bf Ca(OH)_{2}  + HNO_{3}  \rightarrow \: H_{2}O + Ca(NO_{3})_{2}}

So, if we balance the equation, we can see:

 \boxed{ \bf Ca(OH)_{2}  + 2HNO_{3}  \rightarrow \: 2H_{2}O + Ca(NO_{3})_{2}}

On Reactant Side:

  • Ca - 1 atom
  • O - 8 atoms
  • H - 4 atoms

On Product Side:

  • Ca - 1 atom
  • O - 8 atoms
  • H - 4 atoms

The basic trick to apply during balancing the equation:

  • First try to balance the nitrate radicle on both sides.

  • And then balance the other atoms.

Hope It Helps.
