How the element characters are designed: I try to keep some consistency in the way I design the characters. Here's how I do it!
Hair color: Based on the color of the element itself. Shades of silver, white, gray, and black will be common among the characters, especially the metals.
Eye color: Corresponds to their group number.
Something near or around their neck: Corresponds to their period number. This item can be a tie, badge, bandanna, necklace, collar, etc.
Personality: Based on the element's attributes (Aluminum is shy and sensitive due to the element's malleability), history (Gold acts like a princess), or other qualities/aspects. Also ties into their hobbies.
Hobbies, Interests, Occupations, Talents: Based on what the element is used for.
Physical age: Chosen at random.
Gender identity: Chosen at random.
Physical sex: Chosen at random.
Sexual orientation: Chosen at random.
What I need help with:
Turning facts into jokes.: I'll admit, I'm not very good at being funny when I make an effort to do so. About 95% of the content in this comic ill be based on scientific facts, so I need to make humorous things out of those facts. I'll look through the Rule of Funny section to get more ideas, as well as continue research on the individual elements.
Turning facts into stories.: Character interaction is important. For the parts of the comic that aren't strips, there can be short stories based on, again, scientific facts, or historical happenings involving the elements.
Ideas for additional characters.: If you know any interesting facts about an element I haven't personified, tell me anything you know! I'm open to suggestions as well!
I am not a scientist, doctor, or a chemist. (In fact, I started to create these characters because I was so bad at chemistry when I was in high school.) But whether or not you know a lot about science, I would love additional suggestions and/or critique. So if I get any facts wrong, or if you think I should explore something further, please let me know!
