if lines L1 and L2 are two straight lines with equations a1x+b1y=c1 and a2x+b2y=c2 respectively, then , 1. lines are parallel if and only if a1b2=a2b1 2. lines are perpendicular to each other if and only if a1a2+b1b2=0
