What is frenkal defect?

The defect which is created when an ion leaves the appropriate site in the lattice and then it

takes place in the interstital site. In this a hole or vacancy is then produced in the lattice. Frenkel defect is exhilbited in the ionic compounds.

Consequences of Frenkel defect are as follows:-

• 1. This is type of dislocation defect.

• 2. In this dielectric constant increases because of the closeness of like charges.

• 3. Those crystals which show a frenkel defect will conducts electricity by lonic mechanism.

• 4. In this the density of the crystal will remain always same.
