Formation of covalent bond in nitrogen:
(Attached above)
Covalent Bond:
Covalent bond is a strong chemical bond that is formed by sharing of a pair of electron between atoms. When such multiple pairs of electrons are shared between the electrons then it forms multiple covalent bonds.
Two nitrogen atoms will each share 3 electrons to form 3 covalent bonds and make a nitrogen molecule (N2).
Nitrogen has five valence electrons, so it needs three more valence electrons to complete its octet.
A nitrogen atom can fill its octet by sharing three electrons with another nitrogen atom, forming three covalent bonds, a so-called triple bond.
