Kinetic energy - Energy which possesed due to the motion of an object is called as kinetic energy.

formula of kinetic energy = e k = 1/2 × mv^2

potential energy - Energy which is possed by virtue of the height of its object is called potential energy

formula of potential energy = mgh

Answer:

Potential energy is energy stored in an object due to its position or arrangement. Kinetic energy is energy of an object due to its movement - its motion. All types of energy can be transformed into other types of energy.

Comparison chart

POTENTIAL ENERGY

Definition:

Potential Energy is the stored energy in an object or system because of its position or configuration.

Relation to environment:

Potential energy is not relative to the environment of an object.

Transfer ability:

Potential energy cannot be transferred.

Examples:

Water at the top of a waterfall, before the precipice.

SI Unit:

Joule(J)

Determining factors:

Height or distance and mass.

KINETC ENERGY

Definition:

The energy of a body or a system with respect to the motion of the body or of the particles in the system.

Relation of environment:

Kinetic energy of an object is relative to other moving and stationary objects in its immediate environment.

Transfer ability:

Kinetic energy can be transferred from one moving object to another, say, in collisions.

Examples:

Flowing water, such as when falling from a waterfall.

SI Unit:

Joule(J)

Determining factors:

Speed/velocity and mass
