Dear Diary,
Sorry I couldn't write to you for two days. I was on a two day visit to Shantiniketan.
Shantiniketan is a beautiful place that was conceptualized by the legendary Rabindranath Tagore. It is a six hour drive from Kolkata.
We started early in the morning and reached there about mid-day. As soon as we got off the car we were transferred into a different world. Just as the name 'Shantiniketan' suggests it is the abode of peace. Koels were singing merrily, squirrels scampering, the nests of the weaver birds swaying gently with the breeze. There were flowers everywhere. Students of Viswabharati, the university started by Tagore cycled past singing songs of Tagore. In the evening we attended a tribal festival where the tribal men and women danced so rhythmically and gracefully.
Next day we got up very early. We watched the sunrise over the softly flowing Ajay river. We visited the temples nearby. We went round Shantiniketan and see the Tagore museum. All was so quiet and tranquil. When it was time to return to Kolkata I felt how beautiful Shantiniketan was, far far away from the madding crowd. No wonder Tagore loved Nature and the rustic so much.
I still can't get over my 2day trip. Will write to you later as I have to unpack.
