The difference between homogeneous mixtures and heterogeneous mixtures is-:
homogeneous mixtures-
1. they have uniform composition and appearance throughout its mass.
2. Examples of homogeneous mixture are sugar added in water, mouthwash, etc

heterogeneous mixtures-
1. they do not have uniform composition and appearance.
2. Examples of heterogeneous mixtures are mixture of sand and water, mixture of oil and water, etc

When two substances are mixed uniformly and separate particles can not be seen , it is called as homogenous mixture . Eg : air and salt - water solution
When two substances are not mixed together uniformly and we can see separate particles , it is known as heterogenous mixture. For eg : sand and iron fillings ; salt and sand
