the digestion which takes place within the cells , is known as intracellular digestion . the digestive enzymes are secreted by the surrounding cells cytolasm in the vacuoles  and it occurs in unicellular organisms.

 the digestion which takes place outside the cell in the cavity of alimentary canal is known as extracellular digestion . enzymes are secreted by special cells in the cavity of alimentary canal and occurs in multicellular organisms.
