\large\tt\underline{Aerobic\:Respiration} \bullet{\leadsto} In the cell, the food (glucose) breakdown into carbon dioxide and water using oxygen. When breakdown of glucose occurs with oxygen it is Aerobic Respiration.

\large\tt\underline{Unaerobic\:Respiration} \bullet{\leadsto} In the cells the glucose an be also breakdown without the use of oxygen. This is called Unaerobic Respiration.

More to know :

\bulletOur muscles can also respire unaerobically, But only for a short time, when there is a temporary deficiency of oxygen. During heavy exercises, fast running, cycling, walking for many hours or heavy weight lifting, the demand of energy will be high. But the supply of oxygen is limited. Then unaerobic respiration takes place in the muscles cells to fullfill the demand of energy.

\bullet The partial breakdown of glucose produces lactic acid. The accumulation of lactic acid causes muscle cramps. We get relief from muscle cramp after a hot water bath or massage.

\bullet Hot water bath or massage improves circulation of blood. As a result, the supply of oxygen to the muscle cells increases.

\bullet The increase in the supply of oxygen results in the complete breakdown of lactic acid into carbon dioxide and water.

Explanation:

Aerobic Respiration

  • Oxygen is present when this form of respiration takes place.
  • Gases are exchanged in this form of respiration.
  • It can be found in the cytoplasm and the mitochondria.

Anaerobic Respiration

  • Oxygen is absent when this form of respiration takes place
  • Gases are not exchanged in this form of respiration.
  • It can be found only in the cytoplasm.
