Answer:

So, there are two types of movements in plants.

1. Growth-dependent movements, also known as Tropic movements.

2. Non-growth dependent movements, also known as Nastic movements.

Explanation:

1. Tropic movement- The movement of plants that are directed away or towards the stimulus.

Here, the stimulus is some kind of action that helps in evoking movement in plants.

The types of Tropic movements are:-

a) Phototropism:- The movement of plants that is directed towards or away from sunlight. Example- Roots of plants that are directed away from sunlight.

b) Geotropism:- The movement of plants in response to gravity is termed as geotropism. Example: The shoot grows upwards i.e. against gravity.

c) Chemtropism:- The movement of plant that is directed in response to a chemical stimulus. Example- Pollen tubes grow towards the sugary substance secreted by the stigma of the flower.

d) Hydrotopism:- The movement of plant which is directed in response to the water. Example- roots of the plants are directed towards the moisture.

2. Nastic movements:-  Two types of Nastic movements:-

a) Photonasty:- It is a nastic movement which is directed to the light and dark phases of the day.

Example: Flowers of primrose blossom during the evening but close during the day.

b) Nyctinasty:- It is the movement in response to dark.

Example: Leaves of the rain tree fold by nightfall.
