Fold Mountains:

1. They are formed by the lateral compression of the crust.

2. They are the result of large-scale earth movements caused by stresses in the earth's crust

3. This pressure is caused by the weight of overlying rocks, movement of the mantle or the expansions or contractions of some parts of the earth

Eg: the Andes, Alps, Himalayas, etc.

Block Mountains:

1. the forces of faulting, (epeirogenic forces), lead to the formation of block mountains

2. They are horsts with grabens in between them.

Eg: Vosges,Sierra Nevada, Salt Range
