1. It helps us to breathe. If there was no atmosphere then the planet would not be able to retain its gases and they would fly of into outer space.

2. It protects us from ultraviolet rays of the sun as it contains the ozone layer which blocks the us rays from entering the earth.

3. It helps to retain the temperature. The temperature is stable because of the atmosphere. The greenhouse effect takes place in the atmosphere which in turn heats the planet
