Coal is a amorphous form of carbon which is made deep under the ground from dead and decaying matter. With due to time, they are pressed and also with increase in temperature, they get converted into coal.

• On destructive distillation, coal gives coal gas, coal tar, ammonical liquor and coke. They used for various purposes. Like Coke is the purest form of coal. Similarly Coal tar( $\large{ \rm{CO+ CH_4 + H_2}}$ is used in making paints and chemicals.

The process by which coal is made ,is known as carbonisation of wood. Conversion of wood or decaying matter into coal under the influence of high temperature, high pressure and in the absence of air, is known as carbonisation.
