High ductility / tensile strength - eg. Wire drawing

High malleability - eg. Forging or rolling

Elastic and plastic deformation

High fracture toughness above the Brittle-Ductile transition temperature

High electrical conductivity

Most metals reflect light of all wavelengths equally well so look white or nearly so and shiny

Metals are transparent to gamma rays and to short wavelength X-rays

High thermal conductivity

Low Specific heat capacity

Most metals have some paramagnetism

Most metals have high densities and very high melting points

Most metals have low 1st ionisation energies and Work functions

Most metals exist in nature as their oxides

Most metals are alloy forming

or else it can also be

Though this subject is more related to a solid state physicists. But from my undergraduate courses in solid states physics (1964)I can write the following main properties:

1-If you polish it it looks shiny and silvary looking

2- its structure is closely backed.

3-its ionisation energy is low

4-It is naturlly in combined states

5-It is a good conductor of thermal(heat) and electricity

6-It has at least one basic oxide

7- It has the character of making alloys with other matel
