Advantages of Dams / multipurpose river projects are :

1. It help in navigation i.e. boating
2. Sufficient water can be provided to those places where water is present in less quantity.
3. It helps to prevent floods
4. Helps fishes to breed.

Disadvantages of Dams / multipurpose river projects are :

1. Is causes the displacement of the local residents.
2. Many trees are cut on a large scale.
3. Sediments brought with fast flowing water is collected at a single place making the river shallow.
4. If dams break down then it can cause floods causing large scale destruction.
