1) Test for Oxygen.

The glowing splint test is a test for oxygen. A splint is lit, allowed to burn for a few seconds, then blown out by mouth or by shaking. Whilst the ember at the tip is still glowing hot, the splint is introduced to the gas sample that has been trapped in a vessel. The splint will burn in the presence of oxygen.

2) Test for Carbon dioxide.

The most effective test for CO2 is to bubble the gas through limewater, a diluted solution of calcium hydroxide. The limewater will turn milky.
