The main occupation of the people of Tamil Nadu is Agriculture. In Tamil Nadu 56%  of the people are farmers. This agricultural sector provides food for people and fodder for cattle. Most farmers in Tamil Nadu cultivate crops in different seasons to suit the soil and the availability of water in each season. The crops are cultivated in three seasons the seasons are as follows :

• Navarai (Rabi season)

• Sornavari (Kharif season)

• Samba (Summer season)

The crops grown in Tamil Nadu are :

• Non food crops are rubber , pepper , tea coffee .

• The pulses grown in Tamil Nadu are Red gram , Green gram and Bengal gram.

• The other food crops include sugarcane, oilseeds , spices and coriander.
