A base is a substance that releases hydroxide (OH-) ions in aqueous solution, donates electrons and accepts protons.Acids are sour and bases are bitter . Acids are watery to touch whereas bases are soapy to touch.

Acids produce hydrogen ions and bases produce hydroxide ions.
