Scattering means spreading of light due to rough surface
Dispersion means scattering of light in 7 colour spectrum

Tamballesharan: I have doubt in dispersion on light is it is correct

hey!

scattering of light is the method by which light when falling on a rough surface is reflected in different directions. It enables us to see the objects around us.
For example, we are advised not to read a book in dim light as the scattering of light is less so the amount of light entering our eyes after reflection from the surface of the book is less which makes it difficult for our eyes to make out what is written.

Dispersion of light is the phenomenon by which white light on passing through a prism splits up into its 7 constituent colours (VIBGYOR) i.e. violet, indigo, blue, green, yellow, orange and red. Example, after a spell of rain we sometimes see a rainbow in the sky. This is formed when the white light from the sun passes through the rain droplets suspended in the rain after the shower ( which act like prisms ) and splits into its constituent colurs forming the colourful band of light which we call a rainbow.
