electronic configuration is 2,6 it is a non metal .
it has 6 valence electrons
it's valency is -3

VishnuVibhash: sorry valency is-2

Atomic number = 8

Therefore electronic configuration = 2,6
Therefore it requires two more electrons to attain octet therefore its valency is (-2)

where 2 electrons are in the first shell and 6 electrons in the valence or last shell.

The number of valence electrons of oxygen is 6 electrons since the last shell has 6 electrons.

Hope it helps!!
