  • Abundance of labour in market affected the lives of the workers.

  • Getting a job dependent on existing networks of friendship and kin relationship.

  • Many job seekers had to wait weeks spending Nights under bridges or night shelter and some had to sleep in old buildings and in the shelter which where controlled by the poor law authority.

  • Seasonality of work in many Industries meant prolonged periods without work.

  • After the busy season was over the poor people get back on streets because they had no jobs in the off season.

  • Wages increased somehow in early 19th century but they tell very little about the Welfare of workers.
  • During the napoleonic war,  the prices Rose highly and the real value of what workers earned fell significantly.

  • The number of days determine the average daily income of workers around ten percent of urban people were extremely poor.
  • But in 1830s unemployment was anything between 35 to 75% in different regions.

  • After 1840 building activities intensified in cities opening greater employment opportunities for the poor people.

This way the life of the worker was quite difficult in Europe as the work was in scarce and wages were very low.
