HTTP’s function, like any other protocol, to bring an universal standard to hypertext communication so that every computer connected to the internet in the planet would communicate with each other in a standard way. Anything beyond this is related to the implementation of HTTP.

As a protocol, HTTP defines the requirements, rules, and other functionality details of hypertext communication between computers. What is hypertext? It’s just a fancy way of calling decorated text. Hypertext file are written in HTML, hypertext markup language which has its own set of versions and standards.

There are different levels of protocols in computer science and computer engineering. HTTP is an application-level protocol, meaning it is to be implemented in applications. These protocols are usually defined in long and very technical documents, and they are called RFCs
