mucus helps to hold the food particles together making it into bolus for easy movement in the walls of alimentary canal

bicarbonates secreted by duodenal wall are mainly to neutralize the acidic effect of HCL produced in stomach and prevents excoriation of stomach walls

i. The mucins in mucus can work as a selective barrier, lubricant, or viscous material depending on their structure. When mucin structure and production is normal, mucus protects surfaces all over our body, which helps us live alongside many different microbes.

ii. It provides alkaline medium in the duodenum which is needed for the action of pancreatic enzymes of different food components for their digestion.

iii. Pancreatic amylase enzyme digests starch and changes it into maltose.
