Mahmud of ghazni

Mahmud of Ghazni is a Turkish invader.

He invaded India seventeen times between 1000 amd 1027 CE.

His campaigns were invariably launched in the hot summer months and on each occasion he would leave India before the onset of monsoon.

His invasions never extended to the central, south and eastern parts of India.

Causes of Mahumd of Ghazni's invasions

He had no interest in establishing an empire in India.

He only wanted to plunder the wealth. The loot and plunder would replenish the resources of Ghazni and enable him to consolidate his vast rule in Khurasan and expand further into Central Asia.

Results of his invasions

The vast wealth at his disposal was used to make Ghazni a truly cosmopolitan city. The kindom of Ghazni was adorned with splendid architecture.

The amassed wealth attracted many poets to Ghazni like Al Beruni and Firdausi.

The invasions of Ghazni served as the precursor to the foundation of the Delhi sultanate.
