1) The School-Book Society was set up with the coming of Western methods in education to India and henceforth, the rising demand for textbooks and dictionaries. The society also encouraged the establishment of new elementary schools.

The Calcutta School-Book Society was an organisation based in Kolkata during the British Raj. It was established in 1817, with the aim of publishing text books and supplying them to schools and madrasas in India.

2) Ram Mohan Roy

It was started at Calcutta on 20 August 1828 by Raja Ram Mohan Roy and Debendranath Tagore as reformation of the prevailing Brahmanism of the time (specifically Kulin practices) and began the Bengal Renaissance of the 19th century pioneering all religious, social and educational advance of the Hindu community.

The pioneer of reform was Ram Mohun Roy. His intense belief in strict monotheism and in the evils of society.

3) Some notable members of the assoiation are Rasik Krishna Mallick, Krishna Mohan Banerjee, Radhanath Sikdar, Dakshinaranjan Mukherjee.

The year was 1828. Raja Rammohun Roy founded the Brahmo Samaj and firebrand teacher of Hindu College, Henry Louis Vivian Derozio, along with a radical group of students that called itself Young Bengal, established the Academic Association.
