• The North Atlantic Current (NAC), also recognized as North Atlantic Drift and North Atlantic Sea Movement, is an influential warm western boundary current within the Atlantic Ocean that covers the Gulf Stream northeastward.

• The North Atlantic current initiates from where the Gulf Stream turns north at the Southeast Newfoundland Rise, an undersea ridge that bounces southeast from the Grand Banks.  

• The North Atlantic current flows northward east of the Grand Banks, from 40°N to 51°N, before turning abruptly east to cross the Atlantic.

• It carry more warm tropical water to northern latitudes than any other boundary current; more than 40 Sv in the south and 20 Sv as it crosses the Mid-Atlantic Ridge

Equatorial current

It has north and south parts and between them runs equatorial counter-current which flows from east west direction.  

North Atlantic Ocean currents

North EC joins and reinforces Cayenne's current which heads north-westwards and deposits a lot of water into the Caribbean Sea, divided into two.  

Florida current enters the Mexican gulf emerging from Florida Strait.  

Gulf Stream heads east of Antilles and is one of the strongest.  

Canaries current  

Flows southwards along with the coast of Europe and Africa, meets the north parts.

Labrador Current

They meet the Gulf Stream and flows south-eastwards.  

Brazilian current  

Travels southwest along the Brazilian coast and form by the split at Cape Sao.

Benguela  

It brings cold polar water into the tropical latitudes.
