I know the soln to this has already been posted on the forum but i want to know exactly how we do the ozonolysis in this case . Please explain a little bit in detail as i have already gone through the previous soln and wasnt able to understand Cleary. .

Answer:

Ans: Kekule structures: From ozonalysis reaction the possibility of kekule structures can be confirmed (that benzene can exists in both the forms). 1,2-dimethyl benzene on ozonalysis produces Di-methyl glyoxal (CH3-CO-CO-CH3), methyl glyoxal (CH3-CO-CO-H) and glyoxal (OHC-CHO) in 1:2:3 ratio confirmes the two possible structutres.
