Enzymes are biological catalysts. ... Enzymes speed up reactions by bringing reactants together and reducing the activation energy required to start the reaction (enzymatic reaction). Enzymes are specific: they have a specific shape, therefore only a certain substrate will fit its active site.

Answer :-
The characteristic features of enzymes (catalysts) are as follows :-
- Enzymes are the largest and most specialised class of protein molecules.
- All Enzymes are "Globular Proteins".
- Simple enzymes on hydrolysis, yield amino acids only ( Eg - Pepsin, Trypsin, Chromotrypsin).
- "Holoenzymes" are conjugated proteins which can be dissociated into Protien components, Apoenzymes, and Non-Protien parts called Co-factors.
- Co-factors may vary from simple organic ions to Complex organic molecules.
- "Coenzymes" are organic molecules which are loosely attached to each other.
- "Coenzymes" are easily separable molecules.
- "Coenzymes" tend to form combinations with "Apoenzymes" only at the time of reaction.
- "Coenzymes" are organic, non-protinaceous groups which are essential for the proper maintenance of the activities of the enzymes.
- Enzymes exist in the cells of organisms in the form of "Colloidal particles".
