when the mass of the body is less than the liquid the body will float. eg- the mass of wood is lower than metal and water and mass of metal is higher than water that's why wood floats and metal don't

The situation when a body will float on a liquid is given below:

• When the mass or density of the body or the object is lighter than the density of the water, then the body will be floating on water.

• For example, a piece of paper will float on water. This is because the density of that paper is lighter or lesser than that of density of the water.

• Another condition is that when the body has the same density or equal density as the density of water, then the body or the object floats full submerged in water.

• One important point to note is that when a body or object floats on water then the total force which acts on that body is equal to zero.
