Chemical formulas for various compounds can be done by the method  called as Criss cross method

For example : Calcium Hydroxide

step 1: write the symbols for the atoms

Ca                  OH

step 2: write the valencies at the top of symbols

Ca²                     OH¹

Step 3 - Criss cross the valencies

Ca²                     OH¹

Ca ₁                     (OH)₂

so formula for calcium hydroxide is Ca(OH)2
