The process of extracting Metal in pure form from its Ore is known as Metallurgy.

There are three processes involved in extraction of metals from ores.

They are as follows :

1. Concentration of the Ore to remove impurities.

2. Reduction of the Ore to remove impurities.

3. Purification of the Ore.

Explanation :

1. Concentration of the Ore to remove impurities :

The Ores are concentrated on the basis of the types of impurities and their percentage proportions. Through this most of the impurities are removed and proportion of the Ore is increased. This is called Concentration of the Ore to remove impurities.

2. Reduction of the Ore to remove impurities :

Flux is used in this process. Flux combines with impurities to form slag. Tin is obtained by Reducing the Ore. Limestone is added to produce a slog with the impurities.

⟹ SnO2 + 2C ⟶ Sn + 2CO

3. Purification of the Ore :

The Metal Ore is must be successfully separated. The purification of Ore means removal of gangue from the powdered Ore. Thus, The Percentage of the Ore in the Concentration Ore is higher than the original.
