Hot deserts are formed due to reasons like the offshore wind patterns, aridity due to cold current, sand property and heat whereas cold deserts are formed mainly due to continentality and rain-shadow effects. The cold deserts have an extremely chilling winters which is totally absent in hot deserts.

The main difference between hot and cold desert is that the hot desert is battered by a high sun whereas the cold desert has ice and the snow in the ground. Furthermore, hot deserts are closer to the equator while cold deserts are in extreme northern or southern latitudes
