Answer:

1.Newland could arrange elements only up to calcium, out of the total 56 elements known.

2. After calcium, every eighth element did not possess properties similar to that of the first. Only 56 elements were known at the time of Newlands, but later several elements were discovered.

▶ Newlands' law of Octaves :-

\longrightarrow Newland found that every eighth element had properties similar to that of the first. He compared these to the octaves found in music. Therefore, he called it is the ‘ Law of Octaves’. It is known as ‘ Newlands'law of octaves ’ .

⟹Limitations of Newlands

law of Octaves.

\longrightarrow Law of Octaves only applicable upto calcium and after calcium every 8th did not possess properties similar to that of the first.

\longrightarrow At the time of Newlands' only 56 elements were existed in nature and Newlands'assume that no more elements will be discovered the future.

\longrightarrow But, later on , several new elements were discovered, whose properties did not fit into the law of octaves.

\longrightarrow One important demerit of Newlands' law that he adjusted two elements in the same slot such as Cobalt and nickel [ Co and Ni ] .

\longrightarrow With the discovery of noble gases the law of octaves become irrelevant.

\longrightarrow Newlands'law of Octaves worked well with lighter elements only.

✔✔ Hence, it is solved ✅✅.
