SOLUTION

TO EXPRESS

Each of the following as the product of two factors:

a) 3a-6b

b) 6x-9

EVALUATION

a) Here the given expression is 3a - 6b

So the two terms are 3a and 6b

 \sf{3a = 3 \times a}

 \sf{6b = 2 \times 3 \times b}

So the common factor between the two terms = 3

 \therefore \sf{  \: 3a - 6b}

 \sf{ = 3(a - 2b)}

b) Here the given expression is 6x - 9

So the two terms are 6x and 9

 \sf{6x = 2 \times 3 \times x}

 \sf{9 = 3 \times 3}

So the common factor between the two terms = 3

 \therefore \:  \sf{6x - 9}

 =  \sf{3(2x - 3)}
