VAN MAHOTSAV
Van mahotsav is an annual tree planting movement in India which initially began in 1950. The name Van mahotsav means the festival of trees. It has gained significant importance every year. Millions of saplings are planted across India in observation of van mahotsav.
Van mahotsav festival was started in 1950 by Dr K M Munshi , then the Union minister for Agriculture and Food to create enthusiasm among masses for forest conservation and planting trees. It is celebrated in almost all parts of India, but usually begins between 1st July to 7th July.
The festival raises the awareness of trees among people and highlights the need for planting and tending trees as one of the best ways to prevent global warming and reduce pollution.

Forests are very important for us because forests are very important in maintaining balance in our nature and human life. Someone has rightly said that forest is life. It is also home to many animals, so we should save the forests so that there is balance in nature.
When we think of the existence of flora, we actually think only of our existence. Trees give us fruit, flowers, shade, wood etc. They oblige us by giving us life and life-giving power.
The combination of trees which are called forests are the basis of our life. Our earth's surface is green due to trees. Forests, groves and gardens are real forms of life and beauty on earth. It is necessary to make efforts to protect them. Increasing forest area by growing new trees by planting trees is a part of the forest festival.
In our country, there has been tremendous harvesting of forest trees. Forests are losing their natural beauty. The cut trees here are screaming and telling their painful story. Wild animals and birds are also hurt because their natural habitat has become a victim of development.
